EPT - European Poker Tour
Europe didn't get its own poker tour until 2004 when the winner of the very first Ladbrokes Poker Million, John Duthie, managed to get the EPT started.By that time – in 2004 – poker had been massively popular in Europe for years, spreading to every corner of the continent like a wildfire. Still John Duthie and the rest of the people behind the EPT decided on a rather low buy-in for the first events to make absolutely sure the EPT would kick off as an immediate success with big fields of players. Success was instant and has only increased since then. From the humble beginning in 2004 the EPT has just grown and grown – in both number of players and events. In 2007 Germany and Poland were added to the tour and now in its fourth season Prague and the more exotic event at the Bahamas have stretched the limits of the EPT calendar. Only the French EPT in Deauville has been removed due to the new and harsh anti-gambling laws in France. Along with the growing success the money has also gotten a lot bigger. Several of the "old" events on the EPT calendar have increased the prize pool to ten times the initial size, and the EPT of today has gotten so popular and juicy that the top players from all over the world now travel to Europe every time there's an EPT event going on. It used to be the European players travelling all over the world but now even the biggest American names eagerly take the trip across the Atlantic to play the biggest poker tour outside North America. EPT events are always played as No Limit Hold'em, and unlike the WPT where only six players sit at the final table; the EPT final tables seat eight.
